Job Description:
News Corp’s technology division, NewsTech, is building a platform that powers the next-generation of dynamic mobile applications. We are looking for a Senior Android Engineer to help us architect and build this platform. You will be working with technologies that power 30+ apps used by millions of users every day.
You will work with a collaborative technical team to develop this platform, write implementation solutions that deliver on Product Strategy, and adhere to established engineering best-practice design guidelines and principles. You will partner with Software Engineers, UX/UI designers, Quality Assurance Engineers, Product Owner(s), and Delivery Manager(s) to deliver high-performing quality customer experiences that are engaging and purposeful. This role will report to the Android Engineering Lead.
What You’ll Do:
Partner with Software Engineers, UX/UI designers, Quality Assurance Engineers, Product Owner(s) and Delivery Manager(s) to deliver high performing quality customer experiences that are engaging and purposeful
Actively participate in all team agile ceremonies, contributing to ensure that all team commitments are delivered on time and of the highest quality
Be an active advocate of the Android platform through both internal and external developer communities
Work closely with different teams across mobile platforms to deliver cross-functional features
Remain an active learner in all technologies related to Android development (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Android SDK, Kotlin Multiplatform, 3rd party libraries, etc.)
Influence and contribute to group discussions and incorporate feedback/communication from the broader team
Actively engage with developers outside of the platform team across different business units and disciplines
Own and lead delivery of major components and platform needs in partnership with senior engineers and business units
Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across the Platform and business unit teams
Identify technical obstacles early and work closely with teams across business units to find creative solutions
Who You Are:
Degree in Computer Science from a four-year university strongly preferred, but other majors and relevant industry experience are also acceptable
6 years of experience in Android application development including previous management experience
Solid foundational knowledge of the Android UI Toolkit
Experience in architecting software libraries in Android
Experience with consuming data from REST APIs and GraphQL
At least 3 years of experience with Kotlin
At least 2 years of experience with GraphQL
At least 1 year of experience with Jetpack Compose
At least 1 year of experience with Agile practices
Positive attitude, curious to learn, and take on new challenges.
