The Platform Engineering team is responsible for building services, tools, APIs and Identity solutions for various business units of Dow Jones. Identity is a key area and Platform Engineering team is heavily invested in building and enhancing a common platform for all Consumer products like WSJ, WSJPlus, Barron’s, and so on.

  • We are looking for creative and passionate, self-driven engineers who want to be hands-on – designing, implementing and owning code all the way through deployment.

  • Our engineers play a critical role in all stages of the product lifecycle, so we look for people who crave ownership, have the initiative for building new software and ensure existing software is functioning. Working in a matrix-reporting environment, the candidate should be able to work on more than one workstreams at any point in time.

  • As part of a cross-functional agile software team, you will be working on building and enhancing identity solutions that are based on industry standards, including OpenID Connect and SAML.

  • In this role, you will focus on identity and access management for Dow Jones products and you will build features that the products rely on for authentication and authorization.

  • You will be extending federated authentication into our products using Facebook, Google, Twitter and so on.

  • Product security is a high priority for all Dow Jones products, so knowledge of security principles is highly desired. You will also proactively work with the Security team to address any security vulnerabilities uncovered via our penetration testing.

  • You will be expected to participate in technical discussions about technology, infrastructure and consider the pros and cons of a technology choice based on business value, scalability, maintainability and project delivery performance.

  • You will be expected to be capable of driving toward solutions independently, seeking feedback when appropriate.

  • You will be expected to maintain and share knowledge in emerging technologies and tools in the industry.

  • You will be required to write unit and integration tests, use BDD, integrate your work into our automated CI/CD pipeline and measure test coverage. You will be following all the standards processes of SDLC and our test automation framework.

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of design, development, and deployment of application software

  • 2+ years experience in building applications in Node.JS

  • Understanding of serverless applications

  • Familiarity with browser and mobile app testing and debugging, building responsive front end applications.

  • Experience in CSS technologies like CSSNext, LESS, Sass, CSS Modules.

  • Good troubleshooting skills, especially with Single page application development.

  • Experience in implementing ReSTful APIs following JSON API standards

  • Experience writing unit tests using Mocha, Karma.JS, testing with Phantom browser or other such tools. Knowledge of Cucumber is a plus.

  • Experience in Linux environment

  • Experience in working with HTTP protocol, how cookies and session management works

Additional Disciplines:

  • Understanding of OAuth integration, ReST API integration with front-end applications.

  • Experience working with Docker or other container technologies.

  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving skills, and programming skills. Ability to identify and isolate problem areas in the end-to-end flow of web application and investigate cause and solution
