Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is seeking an organized, creative and collaborative video operations producer to help create great video at and around our live journalism events. WSJ events gather top leaders and thinkers for conversations that make news--and increasingly, great video.

Live Journalism at The Journal is a true platform for our storytelling and a fast-growing part of our newsroom. Video is central to that growth, and we have big ambitions for using video in new ways to tell stories onstage, enhance conversations and engage a broad digital audience.

As operations producer, you will work with the senior EP on the live journalism team to drive, develop and execute video strategy. With a focus on organization and operations, you will coordinate our event broadcasts and video coverage, and contribute ideas for compelling broadcasts of WSJ events, plus features and series built around those event franchises. You will hire freelance production teams, work with internal stakeholders to devise and execute video plans and work with platform leaders to help deliver the best possible viewer experience.

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of digital video workflows and the ability to communicate with technicians and the journalists who count on us to feature their work and provide video ideas for our broadcasts. The ideal candidate will also have collaboration skills, diplomacy and the ability to roll up his or her sleeves and plunge in wherever needed. Being a supportive, kind colleague is a must.

  • Hiring freelance project teams as needed to execute live broadcasts as well as features

  • Organizing and distributing footage from live events to WSJ digital teams and outside media, including broadcast outlets

  • Maintain live event calendar, working with editorial and business side to ensure appropriate coverage for our events

  • Generally positive, supportive, creative team member with big ideas and the ability to execute.

  • Undergrad or equivalent in experience in journalism or video production

  • 3-6 years producing live or taped videos

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent editing software

  • Technical knowledge of Live event broadcast workflows

  • Experience with domestic and foreign news and feature production
