Senior Video Journalist
The Wall Street Journal is seeking a senior video journalist with exceptional shooting, writing, editing and reporting skills to join our global video unit in the New York office for a six-month contract.
This person will be responsible for producing short- and long-form documentary-style video stories and explanatory features as well as projects tailored to mobile, social and digital audiences. The job requires an extremely organized self-starter with solid news judgement who can pitch, develop and research stories, manage multiple projects at various stages of production, and work collaboratively with the Journal’s worldwide network of reporters and editors in a variety of coverage areas.
We're looking for a good storyteller and a talented generalist who can translate complex stories into smart, elegant video packages. Deadline pressure is a constant in our newsroom, so an ability to react quickly is essential, as is the ability to add depth and context to a story while bringing challenging topics to life visually.
In addition, the job calls for someone who can work with freelance videographers around the world, developing shot lists, advising on shooting, and managing all aspects of that pre- and post-production process. Experience at a leading news organization is preferred. We will give close consideration to candidates who show a strong innovative streak and can navigate effectively in a high-stakes, top-tier newsroom. Solid graphics experience will help you break out of the pack, as will work that shows vision and creativity.
5 years experience in a top-tier newsroom
Highly proficient in Adobe Premiere
Advanced skills shooting with Sony FS7 and FS5, A7S and Canon C100
Experience with lighting on location and in studio
Skills in After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator a significant plus
Proven interest in innovative video storytelling and strategic thinking around social media
