The Wall Street Journal is looking for a Structured Data Reporter to join our New Formats Team.
The Journal has been successful with its annual college rankings, technology companies to watch, airport rankings and more. These pieces of original research and reporting generate significant audience engagement, as people find that the information helps them make life decisions. WSJ goes beyond news headlines every week in providing service-oriented content, and the New Formats Team will expand on that mission by imagining, developing and launching projects that utilize tools from email to text messaging, calendars to slide decks, and proprietary formats that will appear on WSJ-owned platforms.
You will help us develop and launch new rankings and lists, lead the production and growth of ongoing rankings projects across platforms, identify opportunities to repackage stories in our archives, develop a system for slide decks and data modules that serve our readers, and evaluate strategic partnerships, tools and methodologies around structured data.
We're looking for someone with strong data analysis skills; a good sense of topics that interest the Journal’s audiences, current and future; strong project management skills; and a good sense of design of user-centric tools and content. We value collaboration and creativity, and are focused on leaving our audiences smarter and smiling.
You will work closely with reporters and editors across the newsroom who have expertise in various rankings areas as well as the Journal’s visuals, product, design and engineering departments. You will be part of a creative group of storytellers who prioritize audience engagement in their work.
It’s essential to have an enthusiasm for news and the public mission of journalism.
The position will be based in our New York City office and report to the New Formats Editor.
