The Wall Street Journal is looking for a Production Engineer with strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills to work on our global video team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively under the supervision of senior members of the video staff to facilitate everyday coverage and production needs. We're looking for someone with a professional background in multi-format production and who demonstrates strong operational expertise in a digital control room and production environment.

The position requires a knowledge of cloud-based workflows including Adobe Creative Cloud editing, AWS and EditShare media asset management. It's key that you stay up-to-date with technology and resources. Because this is a global news operation, you must have organizational and interpersonal skills to balance a variety of production needs.

The position will be based in our New York office and report to the Senior Director of Multi-Format Production. To apply, please submit a résumé and a cover letter clearly outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the requirements. Candidates who do not submit cover letters will not be considered.

You will:

  • Handle on-site technical management of live video streams and video-on-demand production.

  • Partner with video and audio journalists to provide operational support to all projects.

  • Manage multiple projects in various stages of production.

  • Complete additional duties as assigned, including facilitating breaking news and special events coverage.

  • Be able to work late hours and weekends both as part of a regular weekend rotation and as news developments may warrant.

  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

You have:

  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience serving as an engineer in a production environment, preferably at a top-tier news organization.

  • Professional-level understanding of Adobe Creative Suite and Avid Pro Tools.

  • Experience producing results under tight deadline constraints.

  • Live control room experience and production workflow expertise.

  • A track record of studio and field production with experience managing and maintaining gear inventory using online databases.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with exceptional organizational and time management skills.

The Journal’s reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.
