Dow Jones Product Strategy - Director, Trade Marketing in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

Dow Jones’ Product Strategy team is responsible for steering creative direction positioning, packaging and the go-to-market strategy for MMS (Media & Marketing Sales), to drive revenue for the Wall Street Journal, Barron’s Group at Dow Jones.

The Director, Trade Marketing position will focus on specific projects for the Trade Marketing, Comms, PR, and Barter Partnerships division of the Product Strategy department. This is a key area of focus within The Trust team and we need an experienced marketer to help us immediately.

Internal/External Comms:

  • Support Trade Marketing on communications strategy and activities across Ad Sales products and client campaigns.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key media across the advertising trades in order to drive communication objectives and generate accurate and positive coverage in coordination with Hunt+Gather

  • Develop event briefs, talking points, QA drafts for trade events

  • Write press releases for custom campaigns

Barter Partnerships

  • Maintain key barter relationships across trade and client entertaining initiatives as directed by the Trade Marketing Director

  • Execute Barter Valuation Forms (excel forms) outlining details of agreements

  • Execute Barter Contracts (Form) outlining details of agreement for signature approvals

  • Liaise with Planning and Adservices team once contracts have been executed in order to deliver impressions on schedule with terms of the agreement

  • Set up Salesforce deal link

  • Send screenshots, etears, and campaign reports on timely basis as campaigns are set live

  • Execute and support with on-site events as relates to barter partnerships (such as liaising with Sales teams to invite clients to events, ordering bulk newspapers to be distributed on-site, branding/logo integration on-site, executive speaking engagements, etc)

Event Producer:

  • Support on 80+ events per year with Trade Marketing Director including internal sales summit, internal holiday event, major trade events (ie Advertising Week New York, Digiday Publishing Summit).

  • Responsibilities include producing P&Ls, assisting with management of event budgets, managing RSVP registration, conceptualizing and editing copy with art department for promotional materials, on audience curation, meet & greets, send follow-ups to panelists, seating arrangements, invitations, food & bev, trade talking points, etc. for external and internal facing events (both paid and barter).

Team Management:

  • Manage a team of direct reports who support in trade marketing initiatives

Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years marketing experience (preferred)

  • A propensity for action (Learn, Do, Share), whether it be (knowledge, ideas, etc.); out-of-the-box thinking and creativity; an eye for detail and knack for storytelling

  • Previous experience working for a publishing brand and/or client(s) (preferred)

  • Experience balancing delicate internal senior stakeholders

  • Experience managing a team of direct reports

  • Previous experience creating multi-platform marketing programs including events and media sponsorship elements

  • Proven track record of maintaining P&L as relates to event/marketing budgets

  • Successful material(s) development and packaging; an ability to articulate the value proposition for a product, or offering that’s complemented by formidable copywriting and storytelling

  • Running meetings with senior-level stakeholders

  • Proficiency with G-Suite & Microsoft Office

  • Strong familiarity with social and email channels (e.g. LinkedIn, Twitter, MailChimp, Salesforce/Pardot)

  • A positive attitude and an open mind

  • Comfortable working in highly-matrixed organizations
