Job Description:The Wall Street Journal is looking for a Newsletter and Curation Editor to join our New Formats team. You will help manage a portfolio of email newsletters, coordinate training and access to third-party tools for email, calendars and other formats, monitor campaign performance and best practices, and assist the New Formats editor in developing experimental projects.

The Journal has put email on the front lines of our digital transformation with a holistic rethink, redesign and relaunch of our newsletter portfolio. Smart curation for email will remain a centerpiece of the expanding New Formats team, which will imagine, develop and launch projects that use tools from email to text messaging, calendars to slide decks, and proprietary formats that will appear on WSJ-owned platforms.

We're looking for someone who is comfortable with best practices for email newsletters; has good project management and data analysis skills; a sense for the topics that interest the Journal’s audiences, current and future, including for potential e-books; strong organizational skills to manage multi-faceted projects; and a good sense of design of user-centric tools and content. You will help us grow and improve our newsletter portfolio to retain existing members and attract new ones, and participate in other new forms of journalism.

The position will be based in our New York City office and report to the New Formats Editor.

You Will:

  • Work with the New Formats Editor and other newsroom partners to implement a strategy for the newsletter portfolio that is informed by news judgment, audience insights, analytics and industry best-practices

  • Monitor and share performance data for New Formats tools

  • Review proposals for new email offerings and develop pilot editions where applicable

  • Incubate and launch unique and habit-forming experiences that use compelling stories, standing features and elements of audience interaction across formats

  • Pitch, develop and manage New Formats projects ranging from e-books to slide decks in partnership with newsroom teams

  • Work closely with the audience, strategy and off-platform teams to build an audience and find opportunities to bring our journalism to new readers

You Have:

  • Superb news judgment; a strong journalistic foundation as a reporter or editor

  • A passion for experimentation (including A-B testing) and a facility for data

  • A demonstrated record of success in growing and engaging audiences via email

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Extra consideration will be given to candidates with newsletter product experience
