Dow Jones Manager, Training & Outreach in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a Manager for Training & Outreach who will be responsible for much of the implementation of training initiatives for the newsroom.

The Manager will play a key role in the implementation of the training strategy; support the larger efforts of the Managing Editor’s Office to ensure that the Journal’s newsroom is diverse, inclusive and welcoming; and work collaboratively across the Managing Editor’s Office and newsroom. This person will be an ambassador for the newsroom and work creatively and ambitiously to equip our journalists with the skills they need to excel in their careers and create the exceptional journalism for which The Wall Street Journal is known.

Under the direction of the Assistant Managing Editor for Training & Outreach, the Manager will be responsible for:

  • Helping the Assistant Managing Editor for Training & Outreach in the creation of comprehensive and long-term training programming for a global newsroom.

  • Leading the implementation of training programs, including new-hire orientations, and oversee programming scheduling for all newsroom training initiatives.

  • Leading the newsroom’s program for interns, who are selected by the AME for Talent. This will include training, scheduling, mentoring, etc.

  • Tracking and providing monthly reports on training feedback for survey data and engagement with newsroom staff.

  • Assisting in the Journal’s efforts at journalism conferences.

  • Ensuring that all of our training and outreach initiatives support our goals for an inclusive, diverse and welcoming newsroom, as well as identifying ways in which our newsroom can improve in these areas through training and outreach.

  • Coordinate visits for outside groups and individuals interested in news media and the Journal newsroom.
