The Deputy Editor of Culture, Training & Outreach ("the Deputy Editor") helps to support greater understanding, inclusion and opportunity for colleagues with diverse skills, perspectives and experiences at The Wall Street Journal.
Reporting to the Editor of Culture, Training & Outreach, the Deputy Editor will spend time with news team leaders, attend coverage meetings and help to design and implement training and best practices that ensure a diverse, inclusive and welcoming workplace; will be an ambassador for the Journal's newsroom; will work creatively to support the Editor of Culture, Training & Outreach in providing journalists with the skills needed to excel in their careers and create the journalism for which The Wall Street Journal is known. The Deputy Editor will work collaboratively across news teams to perform assigned responsibilities, including:
Work with the news teams to help develop programs, training and outreach solutions that enrich the newsroom's culture of inclusion and help to bolster retention and career development.
Manage the Journal's year-round training curriculum, new-hire orientation, newsroom internship training curriculum and inclusion programs, such as The WSJ Trust Fellowship, The Wall Street Journal-Morgan State Business Journalism Exchange, WSJ & Lehman Journo-Tech and WSJ Finance Reporting Fellowship programs..
Oversee the production of the newsroom's weekly Culture, Training & Outreach newsletter, including coordinating and editing content.
Manage the Journal newsroom's participation in journalism conferences, such as participation in training and coordination of our attending journalists.
Identify outside training opportunities, fellowships and other programs that could enrich our journalists and our journalism.
Ensure that all Journal newsroom training and outreach programs support goals for an inclusive and diverse newsroom. Identify ways in which our newsroom can improve in these areas through training and outreach.
Manage visits by outside groups and people who want to come to the Journal newsroom.
Perform other related responsibilities and assigned by the Editor of Culture, Training & Outreach.
