Job Description:

We are looking for an analytics manager to join the Data Science & Analytics team for The Wall Street Journal’s Membership group. In this role, you will manage the development of interactive member dashboards, define critical metrics for the business, and accelerate the automation and personalization of member communication.

The membership team is committed to supporting great business journalism through the improvement of our products and the growth of our subscription business. We obsess over building best-in-class data products, that bring applied research methods to all stages of the customer lifecycle.

This role will require a strong background in customer analytics—as well as a passion for topics in data science like machine learning and multivariate testing. You will work collaboratively across the membership group, consulting on new, creative ways the team can work with data across media, acquisition, engagement, retention, and brand.

What you’ll do:

  • Create and maintain Tableau dashboard offering a 360-degree view of the fundamentals of our business.

  • Build predictive models that help us better automate and personalize customer communications. Draw meaningful insights from the process and productionize those models in a manner that make our products and marketing feel more connected.

  • Consult the engagement team on best practices for segmentation in their member communications. Support efforts to make list management for those communications both trigger-based and seamlessly executed.

  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders across the membership organization, identifying requirements, reporting on key success metrics and remediating discrepancies.

  • Identify opportunities for creative, new ways we can engage and retain our members—with a focus on reinforcing sticky habits. Ask smart questions, diagnose the real problem, and develop long-term solutions.

Requirements:

  • You have at minimum bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, mathematics, data analytics, data science or a related quantitative discipline. Applicants with strong technical experience and a professional background in media are also encouraged to apply.

  • 3-5 years experience in an analytics or media-related role is preferred. An enthusiasm for The Wall Street Journal and an understanding of the product is a must.

  • You have experience working with data science-related libraries in Python or R, and have a mastery of common analytics tools (SQL, Tableau, Excel).

  • You have an entrepreneurial attitude toward work and sweat the details.

  • A background in web analytics is also a plus.
